The historic centre of Vienna was inscribed in World Heritage List in 2001. I.a. due to high-rise developments in the surroundings of the WH property, the World Heritage site has since then been repeatedly on the World Heritage Committee’s agenda. As a consequence of the planned project Heumarkt Neu, the property was inscribed on the List of World Heritage in Danger in 2017. Against this background, the World Heritage Committee and ICOMOS inquired a comprehensive Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) in accordance with the ICOMOS Guidance on HIAs for Cultural World Heritage properties so as to assess the impact of high-rise projects in the surroundings of the property as well as the planned project Heumarkt Neu on the OUV from an independent point of view.
