The Czech Railway Administration, Správa železnic, is moving forward with new plans and projects to renew the historic Vyšehrad Railway Bridge, built in 1901, to increase its capacity. This railway bridge spans the Vltava River on the southern edge of Prague's UNESCO Historic Centre, crossing the city's urban conservation zones like Vyšehrad Castle area, as it connects Prague's main railway station to the Smíchov district. As a key component of the European Rhine-Danube transport corridor, the bridge is essential not only for European transit but also as a vital commuter link for Prague's residents.

A Scoping Report is currently being prepared as a basis for the forthcoming Heritage Impact Assessment on the new bridge project, which will examine the potential impact of the planned bridge design on the Outstanding Universal Value, as well as the rich cultural and historical value of the surrounding area, of the World Heritage property Historic Centre of Prague. The Scoping Report pre-identifies potential structural, functional and visual impacts of the planned new bridge proposal, and intends to shed light on the future process of the Heritage Impact Assessment in order to create transparency for all stakeholders.
