Transnational Serial Nomination Proposal Arch Bridges on a large scale of the 19th century

The Müngsten Bridge was a pioneering steel arch structure at the time of its construction at the end of the 19th century. Its highly innovative development level was based on an intensive exchange of engineering technical know-how between various European countries.

Under the leadership of the state development agency, the cities of Solingen, Remscheid and Wuppertal are planning to nominate the Müngsten Bridge as a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with other similarly constructed steel arch bridges in Portugal, France and Italy. This will make it possible to illustrate an important period of technological engineering development steps with regard to bridge constructions and to safeguard these unique bridges as testimonies of the engineering history for future generations.
